The students in all the seven IITs are now paying Rs 25,000 per annum as fees. It could be increased up to Rs 50,000.
The proposed fee structure will be implemented from the new academic session in the seven IITs.
Over 4,000 students take admission to courses in the IITs at Kharagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati and Roorkee every year. The HRD Ministry has approved the recommendation of the C N R Rao Committee that the fee for B Tech and M Tech courses be raised from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per annum.
The issue of fee hike in the IIMs remained unresolved even though some of the prestigious B Schools had already announced fee hike.
