The proposal to introduce visa on arrival facility, which was earlier blocked due to concerns of security at the home ministry level is currently under consideration by the Ministry of External Affairs, according to sources in India Tourism. Making visas free are also being considered, revealed the source.
The tourism ministry has proposed visa on arrival for visitors from 18 countries — France, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Finland, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Vietnam and South Korea.
The visa-on-arrival option would prompt many tourists to make a trip to India even if it was not on their original itinerary, according to sources.
