ITS ALL HAPPENING FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

Freedom drumjam

Drumjam, a Bangalore-based organisation, is offering a community drum circle on August 15 in celebration of the 60th Indian Independence. Drum circles are a collaborative, self-organised musical event created on the spur of the moment with the aim of sharing community spirit and help in emotional healing.

The event is a circle with drums acting as a communication tool and a way of expressing freedom through rhythm and music amongst participants. And the best part of it is that absolutely no experience is required to be a part of it.

While drum circles are a fun-filled, energetic experience, they are also designed as hands-on tools to foster team-thinking and mutual understanding amongst the participants. This drum circle will be led by Roberto Narain, a drummer and percussionist, also known to be India's only certified drum circle facilitator.

This event is on at Lumbini Gardens, Nagawara Lake at 11am and will also launch Beat Root, an interactive percussion ensemble. Entry to event is free. For details cal: 98440-32233.

Variety entertainment

Forum Mall in association with Radio Indigo 91.9 FM will celebrate Colours of Freedom on Independence Day. Colours of Freedom is designed to bring a joyful day for the less previleged. Children from the NGO Dream-a-dream will be treated to a movie, art and dance workshop and fun games in the tricolour decked Forum Mall.

Radio Indigo will broadcast live from venue to capture all their enthusiasm and excitement. Through the day the station will link up live from Forum bringing in all the action on air and encouraging people to participate in the fun activity with the children.

Freedom feast

ITC Windsor is celebrating Independence Day with The Windsor Independence Day brunch at the Raj Pavilion on August 15. On offer is a lavish buffet showcasing of the best Indian cuisine in an array of flavours and textures from all over the country.

There will be some international fare as well featuring the best of Mexican, Chinese, Continental and more. As a special gesture, Defence personnel and senior citizens (60 years and above) can avail of a 50 per cent discount on the brunch. So book your table early.

Dance drama

To mark the 60 years of India’s independence, Shambhavi Dance Ensemble will stage ‘Veera Bharati’ a dance drama throwing light on the country’s journey to freedom. The drama, choreographed by Vyjayanthi Kashi, the internationally acclaimed danseuse, is being organised and sponsored by the Department of Culture, Government of Karnataka as a tribute to India.

The dance drama is on August 15, 7 pm at the Jnanabharathi Auditorium, Bangalore University Campus.
