READER's OPINION: India in international sports...
Shainu Mohan
I feel really happy for our football team as they have played very well, this year. But they should get more exposure and participate at the international level, member of BDFA...

Sheetal, software engineer: I am really proud of our Indian football team for winning the match and it’s really good to know that we are finally promoting this medium of sport as well. Film is a very powerful media and can send its message across to a large number of people across the globe. Chakde India is a very inspiring movie and will really help familiarise the less popular sport among people. Not only that, it will even create an interest in the game for those who perceive it to be uninteresting. Hope our filmmakers churn  out many more such movies in the near future.
John Rathnam, software engineer: India won the match against Cambodia but we need to improve a lot. I do not consider Cambodia as a competable team and India does not have any international standard. The Indian team needs to get more exposure. There are several talented players in our country and most of them are from poor families, so for them it’s a big challenge to come into mainstream sports. The game lacks its due recognition and needs more money and exposure like cricket. Movies like Chakde India are all gimmicks.
Shahul, student: I saw the entire match and I especially thought the skipper Baichung Bhutia played extremely well. I feel football should get more importance and exposure like cricket. There should be some change in the current scenario. Even our national game — hockey — does not get the recognition it rightly deserves. Chakde India is a very good film as it inspires viewers and creates a positive attitude towards the game along educating them about the nuances of the game. I also thought Shah Rukh was brilliant in it.
Siva Shankar, member of BDFA (Bangalore District Football Association): I feel really happy for our football team as this year they have played very well. But they should get more exposure and participation at the international level. It is good that AIFA (All India Football Association) is also encouraging the game. We expect our football team to play an International tournament soon. Movies like Chakde India are really inspiring and will help people realise there’s more to sports than what is perceived and instill interest in sports such as hockey and football.
