Karnataka has a rich tradition of folk songs and sugama sangeeth, which was started and carried on by legendary singers such as P Kalinga Rao, Balappa Hukkeri, Kareem Khan, Mysore Ananthaswamy and others. Zee Kannada, on Sunday, paid tribute to these legends.
As a part of its initiative, the channel had organised “Bhaava Poornima”, a programme in memory of P Kalinga Rao, at Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan auditorium. A musical evening, the event had songs earlier sung and popularised by late P Kalinga Rao. Songs such as Udayavagali namma cheluva Kannadanadu, Barayya Beladingale, Chaluvayya Cheluvo tanitanndano and more, were rendered by popular singers including Y K Muddukrishna, Puttur Narasimha Nayak, B V Radhakrishna, Yeshwanth Halebandi, Ganesh Desai, Ravi Moruru, Mallanna, Sunitha, Vasanth and others, states a release.
