Chintalapalli music fest

The annual Chintalapalli music festival was organised by Chintalapalli Parampara Trust in the City on December 8 and 9.

The programme commenced with the nagaswara recital by Vidwan Chintalapalli Ganganna and party. An exhibition of rare photographs and articles belonging to the Chintalapalli heritage and royal patronage was inaugurated by Indrakshi Devi, princess of the Royal family of Mysore.

The website, www.chintalapalliparampara.com was inaugurated by Dr R Satyanarayana. Prof Akela Malikarjuna Sharma of Hyderabad released the souvenir and “Paramapara Rathnamalika” on the occasion. Kannada film director and producer K S L Swamy (Ravi) released the 2008 calendar containing the photos of late musicians of Chintalapalli parampara. CDs sung by various artistes of the Chintalapalli tradition were also released. This was followed by a carnatic vocal concert by Rudrapatnam brothers.

On December 9, the morning session consisted of a seminar on the compositions of various composers popularised by musicians from Chintalapalli. In the afternoon session more than 200 musicians participated in the “Gostigana” (group singing) reciting the compositions of Chintalapalli composers.  Later more than 30 musicians were felicitated and a special award was given to Vidwan K V Raja Iyengar, senior violinist.
