NBBSS has a glorious history. It was founded in New Delhi in 1922 and its first conference was held next year in Benaras and presided over by Rabindranath Tagore. It has had patronage of literary stalwarts like Kazi Nazrul Islam Atul Prasad Sen and others. Conferences have been held in different venues of the country every year. Bangalore has been the venue in 1959 and 1993. Historian Tapan Raychoudhary presided over the conference in Gwalior last year.
The previous conference held in Bangalore in 1993 was presided over by Shankar and also had stalwarts like Indranath Choudhury Sahitya Akademi president, Arun Chakraborty of National Book trust among other famed literateurs. Meera charoborty recalled the rich literary discussions then. “Manisha Sen led the Prabhat Pheris then, which was very enjoyable” recall the Bengalies here.
Her musical sessions are recalled by everyone here. Whether the conference will take up the issue of Taslima Nasreen is to be seen.
