Nritarutya, the modern dance company welcomes the new year with its 4th home production Prayog-3 on January 4 at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall from 6.45 pm onwards. Here, the seven year old, ICCR-empanelled dance troupe will showcase current innovations in contemporary Indian dance. Prayog-3 is a 50-minutes production based on three themes namely, Dwandwa, Chittara and Mars.
Dwandwa opposes man and animal and aims to question the assumed superiority of man over other animals. Choregraphed by Mayuri Upadhyay, this piece uses movements from Bharatanatyam and Yakshagana extensively. The music for this theme has been composed by Raghu Dixit and the couplet has been sung by B Jayashree. The organisers promise to stun the audience with a 30-feet dragon on stage.
Mars, choreographed by Sathyanarayan B G deals with the male energy and the child within every man. A see-saw will be used as the prop to accentuate this characteristic and depict the different levels of man. As Bharatanatyam is seen as a feminine form of dance, he has consciously incorporated it in his composition to present his interpretation of the feminine. The music score has been handles by Shiva of Yodhaka, a Chennai-based World Music Band.
Madhuri Upadhyay’s theme Chittara was inspired by Rangoli patterns, her paintings of puppets and the magic of a kaliedoscope and represents an artist doodling on his canvas. With Thermal and a Quarter’s Rzhude David providing the music for this production, she blends fine arts and performing arts to create a visual representation.
This non-commercial venture includes 15 dancers whose costumes have been designed by City designer Deepika Govind.
