Priority must be given to inventions in the medical field, said Indian Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Association president Dr S C Goel.
Speaking after inaugurating the 32nd State-level Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Convention at Madikeri Crystal Hall on Saturday, he lamented that though there are enough opportunities for research in the country, young doctors are not making proper use of it. Diseases related to hand and leg joints are increasing and awareness must be created regarding the right treatment for the disease. The Association must accept this as the main issue and work on it, he suggested.
Releasing the booklet on the State Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Association, Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan appreciated that the thought provoking convention is being organised in the district which is known to attract tourists with its scenic beauty. He lamented that the interest of people is general is decreasing in the social service and government services at a time when health concerns are posing a challenge to people. If medical service do not become service oriented, it may get transformed into a money minting business, he expressed fear.
Renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Shantharam Shetty released a CD containing information about the association. Association president Dr Naresh Shetty inaugurated the exhibition of surgery equipment. Retired Lt Col B C Nanda and Dr Ravi Appaji were present.
