The valedictory function of the jatha held by Karnataka Social Change and People’s Movement in the town opposing harassment of dalits, adivasi women and physically challenged was held in Kolar on Saturday.
Thousands of activists from various districts of states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala had participated in the function.
The members who took out a rally from Inspection Bungalow which passed through various streets and culminated at the Government Pre-University College.
The leaders who spoke on the occasion expressed their fears in the backdrop of privatisation, liberalisation and globalisation, which will finally lead to the destruction of Indian culture.
Due to foreign products entering the market, Indian products are getting less importance and finally will add to the country’s unemployment situation, they stated.
The farmers’ land are being taken away from the farmers by the capitalists in the name of industrial development and special economic zones.
“A shocking 26,172 cases of dalit harassment has been recorded in the year 2005. Already 98 per cent of the accused have escaped punishment”, they added.
Unemployment problem has gone to such an extent that no one can ever seem to resolve it.
On the other side, there has also been staggering increase in farmers’ suicide, they stated.
Samatha Sainik Dal’s State unit president M Venkataswamy, State Farmers Association’s Sunanada Jayaram, N Venkatesh of DSS, Gollahalli Shivaprasad, Janawadi Women’s Association’s V Geetha, District coordinator of Karnataka Social Change and People’s Movement Mamatha Reddy, Farmer’s association’s M Nanjundappa, State co-ordinator of the Okkuta S Prabhavathi, and others were present.
