Industries must earn their own foreign exchange
New Delhi, Feb. 9.

Mr Morarji Desai, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, urged that every industry try to export at least such quantities of the production as would pay for the raw materials which it needs in import.

Mr Desai who was addressing the Export Advisory Council meeting here said that this might mean selling without any profits abroad and adherence to stricter standards of quality - “in other words some sacrifice”.

Big Rockefeller aid to combat forest disease in Mysore
New York, Feb 9

The Rockefeller Foundation today announced that it had awarded a grant of $1,00,000 to pay for 50,000 units of vaccine for use in an epidemic of an unknown disease in Kyasanur forest region of Mysore State, India.

The vaccine is being made in the US. The disease broke out last week as reports reached the Virus Research Centre that monkeys were dying in the forest.

5 more killed on eve of PM’s poll campaign
Gauhati, Feb 9

Five more deaths, including a gruesome stabbing near Namrup, today raised the Assam anti-election agitation toll to 35 on the eve of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s arrival for a brief election campaign visit.

In the stabbing, a woman was killed and two of her children were grievously injured by miscreants who attacked their house.
