Beverage vending machine, platform ticket vending machine and next in the pipe line is the snack and food dispensing kiosk at railway stations in Bangalore. This is part of an initiative by Indian Railway Catering and Tourist Corporation (IRCTC) to improve the physical ambience inside railway stations.
Insert a Rs 5 coin, a Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 or Rs 100 note into the machine, select the snack you require and it pops out along with the balance.
Six machines will be introduced on an experimental basis by first week of March in six out of 14 stalls run by IRCTC in City station, Mr A Gagarin, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC told Deccan Herald. Machi nes are operated on a public-private partnership and each of them costs Rs 2 lakh.
More machines would be introduced and hi-tech kiosks will be extended to Yeshwantpur and Hubli too, depending on the response from public. The IRCTC will be calling for tenders in this connection shortly, he said.
