'Value based education necessary'
DH News Service, Udupi:

“Strong base with an appropriate and value based primary education is very much necessary for a child to bloom into a disciplined personality,” opined Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva.

Delivering the acceptance speech after receiving the Alevoor Group Award ’08, Dr Alva said that the primary education is the base which should be deeply rooted followed by a discipline in high school education.

This will enable a child to have a well characterised adulthood.

Though English plays a major role in this era of globalisation, mother tongue should not be ignored, especially Kannada.

Dr Mohan Alva also said that common entrance examinations should not be the only criteria to evaluate the intelligence of a student and urged parents not to pressurise children against their wishes.

Scholar and renowned theatre personality Prof U Madhav Achar, Block Development Officer (Udupi) D Manjunathaiah, Alevoor Group for Education President Alevoor Ganapathy Kini were present on the occasion.

Merely making social and political statements that value-based education is a must does not work. They must designed modules on VBE and implement them. Please read the following survey study very recently completed in Indian Gulf schools.
