Children are indeed turning into couch potatoes, thanks to their addiction to TV and computer games. To bring children out of their homes, Jetix Action League (JAL) were in the City recently gathering the school students for a live entertainment outside. It organised a Sports Day with a Jetix twist and inspired around 3,000 students and 100 schools to team up at St Joseph’s Indian High School to have fun and to feel the entertainment on the ground. All the school students from Bangalore between 7-14 years came together in an unconventional game play which involved teamwork along with physical and mental skills.
The kids enjoyed the frisbee soccer, a traditional soccer game played with a frisbee replacing the football while the goalkeeper guarded a mobile goal post holding.
Team games
Some of the games were played in different ways.There was tug-of-war and innovative games like bellyball, wheel barrow, legged race and frog relay which encouraged the kids to play even under the heat of the sun. None of the games were for individuals. All were team games.
K Seshasaye, Head Corporate Communications, the Walt Disney Co India Pvt Ltd said, “we even made the winner shield upside down to entertain the kids. We want the kids to feel that participation is more precious than winning”.
An amount of Rs one lakh was given for the winning school to use it for development in sports activities in the school. The Jetix Action League had organised an adventure camp for all the winning teams to experience the Jetix superhero life. The winner’s shield was bagged by St Aloysius High School. The first runner-up was St Xaviers Boys’ High School and second the runner-up was Ramkrishna English Primary School.
Prize for all
There were prizes for the spectators as well. The Best Cheerleading School title was taken by Nightingale Public School while the team with Best Painted Faces went to Good Samaritan School.
The loudest school team was Silicon City School and the winner of the Crazy Action league game was Daniel Christopher from My Saviour School. ‘Team up’ is the tag line of JAL. The competition was organised on the basis of school championship.
