Teachers test their wits

Garden City College ventured into a new domain when modern day gurus drawn from various educational institutions in the City descended on the campus to take part in the Garden City College’s Teachers Trove 2008, a literacy and cultural fest exclusively for teachers.

More than 40 colleges took part in the fest. Inaugurating the fest, guest of honour Dr Mahesh Joshi, Director, Doordarshan, Bangalore, said, “As mentors and motivators, teachers are source of guidance and information.”
Later he inaugurated Malange the exhibition-cum-sale organised by the Department of Fashion and Apparel Design accompanied by educationist Dr Joseph V G, chairman of Garden City College.
Teachers Trove 2008 witnessed teachers test their wits in various events, showcase their innovative bent of mind and exhibit their cultural expertise.

The winning team carried home the rolling shield instituted in memory of a great guru and mentor Dr Shivarudrappa, the first president of the Governing Council of Garden City College.

Course in aesthetic dentistry

Studio Esthetique, an aesthetic dentistry clinic, has been set up by the Bangalore-based V S Dental College. The unique studio, a first of its kind, has all the facilities and expertise of world-class aesthetic dentistry.
VS Dental College Principal and Dean Dr Usha Mohandas informed that there are some medical cases where patients teeth would have fallen off due to accidents or physical violence.

“In such cases, the patients may hesitate to smile. We help them get back their smiles back  through aesthetic dentistry,” she said, adding that in children it is more of broken front teeth and cleft lip.
Aesthetic dentistry is a major dental health initiative. It’s a procedure that enhances the patients teeth and their smile.

Some of the procedures that are done in studio are: smile designing, smile enhancing, whitening, tooth jewellery, periodontal plastic surgery, minimal invasive dentistry, Air abrasion technology, laser dentistry and CAD-CAM.
“In some cases, the treatment is done in few minutes. In cases where the injury is deep, we first study the injury, investigate and then give the treatment,” Dr Usha said.
Courses for dentist training in aesthetic dentistry are offered in the studio so that students can get hands on training.
