5-yr-old shoots sister

A five-year-old boy accidentally shot his sister, Samia, on Saturday night with the revolver of their father, critically injuring her, reports PTI from Ghaziabad.

Doctors attending eight-year-old Samia said she has been put on a ventilator. The parents were not in the house when the children picked the revolver, lying on a table.

Bride killed in road mishap

Seven members of a marriage party, including the bride, were killed when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck, PTI reports from Theni in Tamil Nadu. The marriage was to take place in Madurai on Sunday. The deceased includes two children.

Protests against Jodhaa Akbar

Activists of a Rajput organisation on Sunday staged noisy demonstrations against the screening of Ashutosh Gowariker’s film “Jodhaa Akbar”, reports IANS from Jaipur.

The organisation says presenting Jodhabai as Jalaluddin Akbar’s wife is factually incorrect.

Shiv Sena to oppose V-Day

Shiv Sena on Sunday said it would oppose the ‘Valentine Day’ celebrations in the capital as it was against the Indian culture, reports PTI from New Delhi. The Party has convened an emergency meeting of its activists to chalk out plans for Feb 14.

Cold claims two more in Gujarat

Two persons, including a mentally unstable youth, have died in the last 24 hours in Saurashtra due to a cold wave, reports PTI from Rajkot.

NE TV chief attacked

Unidentified gunmen attacked the head of a regional private television channel in Guwahati in the pre-dawn hours on Sunday, reports DHNS from Guwahati.

Sources said the assailants fired at least eight bullets at Manoranjana Singh’s car. Senior Superintendent of Police said they have started investigations.
