Convincing win for Gymkhana
Syed Nooruddin’s fine all-round performance powered Malleswaram Gymkhana to a facile comprehensive 92-run win over Merchants CC in the Basavangudi Sports Foundation-conducted N Balaji memorial State-level cricket tournament in Bangalore on Sunday.
Batting first, Gymkhana hit up a massive 196 for five in 28 overs, riding on Srivatsa Puranik’s (46) and Nooruddin’s (29) useful knocks.
In reply, Merchants were restricted to 104 for nine in 28 overs with Nooruddin (4/22) and Nagaraj (4/8) sharing the bowling spoils.
In another match, Jupiter CA posted a nine wicket win over Sangam CA through Duckworth-Lewis method.
Batting first, Sangam were restricted to 109 for seven wickets in 21 overs. Jupitar had reached 79 for one in 11.3 overs in reply.

Students Union, IISC split points
Students Union and Indian Institute of Science played out a goalless draw in the ‘C’ Division football league at the IISC ground on Sunday.
Dileep put Students Union ahead in the fifth minute while Harsh netted the equaliser for IISC in the 70th minute.
Joint winners in Kodava hockey
Wilson Garden Kodava Sangha and Koramangala Kodava Sangha were declared joint winners of the fifth inter-sangha hockey tournament after the final was abandoned with four minutes of play left at the Karnataka State Hockey Association Stadium on Sunday.
Wilson Garden were leading 3-2 when high drama unfolded as the umpires disallowed a goal by Koramangala.
Koramangala then refused to continue and in the end, the organisers decided to declare the teams as joint-winners.
Padeyanda Mandanna (17th, 49th) and Kongetira Nilan (38th) scored for Wilson Garden while Palanganda Ajay and Palanganda Amar (29th) were on target for Koramangala.
AXA register emphatic win
Riding on a five-wicket haul by Vinayak, AXA cruised to a convincing ten-wicket win over Bytes and Foods in the Polycom corporate T20 cricket tournament in Bangalore on Sunday.
Batting first, Bytes and Foods were dismissed for a paltry 117 as man-of-the-match Vinayak ripped through their batting line-up by taking five wickets for 25 runs.
In reply, AXA coasted to victory in just 12 overs as openers Naveen (74) and Kumar (43) remained unseparated.
