MPP Technologies opens its new plant in Tumkur
DH News Service, Bangalore:
MPP Technologies Ltd, a high end sheet metal fabricator, on Monday, opened its new factory in Tumkur.

Set up with an investment of Rs 15 crore, it will manufacture Fin-wall corrugated transformer tanks. The plant, with production capacity of 10,000 units per annum, is first of its kind in India.

MPP Technologies Managing Director M D Shetty said the Fin tanks are ideal for transformers in the middle to lower capacity transformers of upto 5 MVA. It is highly thermal efficient and need around 30 per cent less steel for construction.

“The usual practice is to manufacture tanks and radiators and assemble into one unit. This method is acceptable for large power transformers. But in the power distribution segment, where transformers are of smaller rating and size, this is a costly and inefficient method,” he said.

“These distinct advantages contribute in bringing down the cost of the transformer by up to 3 per cent,” Mr Shetty observed.

The new plant will provide employment to 500 people, he said.

Sales turnover

“MPP, along with its sister concern TTP Technologies Ltd, currently have a combined sales turnover of around Rs 200 crore. With full capacity operations of MPP’s new plant and the proposed expansion in existing factories, the total combined turnover is projected to exceed Rs 500 crore by 2010,” Mr Shetty added. MPP’s another manufacturing unit is also situated at Peenya.

Earlier, Crompton Greaves Ltd Managing Director S M Tehran inaugurated the new Plant. Crompton Greaves is partnering with MPP for the last 25 years. The interior components for the corrugated transformer tanks will be manufactured by Crompton Greaves.

“The 11th Five Year Plan envisages an increase of 78,000 MW power generation requiring additional investment of Rs 5,00,000 crore. MPP’s new corrugated Fin-wall tanks will be a way to meet this need,” he added.
