Petitioners - Syed Samiulla of K G Halli and nine others - said the Regional Transport Authority is not issuing fresh permits owing to a 1999 government notification which has fixed 70,000 as the maximum number of permits for the City, they said.

CJ for new sports policy

“Government should frame a more dynamic sports policy,” said Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph.
While the advocate speaking on behalf of government said stadiums could be let out for commercial functions but if the dates clashed with sports events, priority is to be given to sports activities, the Chief Justice said: “The whole stadium should be utilised for sports all 365 days. If sports department has a vision, not even a single day will a stadium remain vacant. Having more than 100 crore population, we don’t get one medal in Olympics.”
The Bench also sought to know different sports associations’ views in the matter.

Life terms upheld

The High Court confirmed the life terms of those accused in a rape case. The division Bench comprising Justice K Shreedhar Rao and Justice A S Pachchapure pronounced the order. The court upheld Bangalore Rural District Fast Track Court’s order convicting Manjunath (25) of rape along with two others and sentencing him to life imprisonment.
