Elections to State Legislative Assembly may be held only in November, said former minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs D B Chandre Gowda. He was speaking to media men after inaugurating the District Youth Congress Office in Koppa on Tuesday.
The report of the Delimitation Committee has got the consent of the cabinet and has gone for President’s signature, hence its implementation is beyond doubt. Election cannot be conducted by sidelining it. The Election Commisson has sought a duration of 3-4 months to implement the recommendations. Therefore, elections can be held only in November, he analysed.
Till now the Union government was planning by keeping the production target in its view, which has changed of late. The current planning strategy is nothing but the welfare of each family on the basis of Swaminathan Report.
The new policy of the Union government will benefit rural farmers. Proposal is there to spend Rs 1,50,000 crore for making farmers debt-free. Plans are also being envisaged to make villages attractive and lucrative in order to stop migration of farmers from rural areas to urban centres.
The target of the government is to waive loans of the farmerds owning lands up to 5 acres, Mr Gowda explained.
Block Congress President A S Nagesh, District Youth Congress President Sachin Miga, Minorities division chief Abdul Khader, Youth Congress leaders Duggappa, Hanchikolalu Dinesh, Onitota Ratnakar, Town Panchayat former member Subrahmanya among others were present.
