Unseeded Sharan Patil sent third-seeded Sujith Mathew packing in the boys' under-18 section quarterfinals in the Tennis Advantage all-India ranking junior tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

After dropping the first set, Patil rallied splendidly to notch a stunning 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Mathew.

At one stage, it appeared the third seed would come through with a minimum of fuss after winning the first set.

Unfortunately for him, Patil raised him game several notches to win the next two sets without breaking sweat.

In another last-eight stage clash, Ajinka Pawar got the better of fourth-seeded Ganga Singh. Pawar won 6-3, 6-2.

Uttam Singh subdued giant-killer Nikhil Reddy 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Reddy, who defeated second seed Akshay Kishore in the pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday, failed to come up with the goods against Uttam.

In the under-14 section, top-seeded Kashyap Ashok outplayed Rohit John Joseph 6-3, 6-4 to enter the semifinals.
Rohit R Gowda, Nikhil Reddy and Pratheesh were the others who made it to the last-four stage.

It was smooth sailing for the seeds in the girls' section, all going through to the semifinals after posting easy victories.
