After political jathas, the state-unit of the BJP will now launch itself into agitation mode. The saffron party will launch a series of agitation programmes from the last week of February, to protest against delay in holding assembly elections, and the “politicisation” of administration.
A final decision in this regard will be taken at a specially-convened state executive meeting scheduled to be held in Bangalore on February 14.
“The agitation programmes will be aggressive, with party leaders and workers courting arrest after holding protests against the administration in the State,” a senior party functionary told Deccan Herald.
The main charge of the BJP against the administration in the State is that it is functioning according to the wishes of the Congress, which IS against democratic norms.
Another issue that the party would take to town is what it claims is the failure in implementation of proposals made by B S Yeddyurappa as finance minister in the previous budget.
In North Karnataka, the BJP is planning to play the “betrayal card”.
It is preparing an extensive campaign, based on the fact that only 10 per cent of the Rs 1,570 crore budgetary allocation for 2007-08 for the region had been spent for implementing the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee report on Regional Imbalances.
BJP National Vice-President and in-charge of party affairs (Karnataka) Yeshwanth Sinha will be attending the state executive meeting.
In Parliament
Meanwhile, the “delay’ in conducting elections to the Legislative Assembly in the state will now echo in the budget session of Parliament.
With the parliamentary session scheduled to begin from February 25, the BJP is planning to make it an issue, and charge the Congress of deliberately trying to delay elections in the State.
