A glimpse at Vadivelu’s mannerisms is enough to make you laugh your heart out. But, how about having him on the screen for three long hours just to tickle the funny bones?
After a successful experiment with Imsai Arasan 23 Pulakesi, Vadivel is back, this time to don the lead role in Thambi Ramaiah’s Indiralokathil Naa Azhagappan.
Claimed to be a fantasy comedy, Vadivel is cast in three different roles here.
Indiralogathil Naa... is about Azhagappan (Vadivelu)’s journey to the celestial world. Azhagappa runs a drama troupe with his friends in his village. His accidental marriage with Rambha (Yamini) from Indiralokha lands him in heaven. He gets a chance to peek into Yamaloka (hell) and learn the secrets that would lead people to heaven too.
The funny, yet enthralling sets of Indiralokham with beautiful maidens around him and Yamaraja with his minions in hell and their heavenly regalia suit the comedy track.
Confused whether to give a philosophical or a mythological or a comedy piece, the director wastes the best comedians without any repentance!
Azhagappan’s skirmishes with Yamaraja (Vadivelu) and Indira (again Vadivelu) and the melee he sows in heaven is the only respite in this otherwise slow and boring movie.
The initial peels of laughter gradually get replaced by frowns and yawns. With a fragile story line, Vadivelu fails to entertain.
The ‘burlesque’ story scripted to invoke laughter, has unfortunately turned out to be a trite drama. Indiralogathil Naa Azhagappan dwindles to nothingness.
