Speaking at the Gurunamana programme organised by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Teachers and Lecturers Association in Bangalore on Monday, Chandrashekhar said the ultimate goal of a teacher was to make his student develop a questioning attitude.
Whatever students learn through their prescribed syllabus will not help in making one’s career, he noted.
“Ranks achieved in the examinations conducted by the state board will not come in the way of getting a job in corporate world. Companies look for skills, not the marks cards. The education system should concentrate on imparting skills essential for the upcoming age,” he said.
Teachers needed
BBMP commissioner Dr S Subramanya said that the present education system needs skilled teachers. Students would not listen to teachers unless they are competent enough to answer queries.
Students are now brighter than many teachers when it comes to knowledge of computers. The Palike will conduct skill improvement programmes for the benefit of teachers of BBMP schools, the commissioner added.
