Tahsildars of Tumkur and Magadi, conducted a raid into the illegal oil racket that was flourishing in the border areas of Tumkur taluk, in an operation led by and led by J C Naik, deputy director of the Food & Civil Supplies Department. Diesel worth Rs 10 lakh - including two diesel tankers - was seized.
For a while now, an illegal oil racket had been flourishing in the border areas. Many oil tankers from Mangalore, bound to different areas in Bangalore, were conducting business illegally at a dhaba beside Anchepalya, on National Highway 48.
The area under the jurisdiction of both Tumkur and Magadi taluks. Acting on a tip-off, tahsildars Manjunatha Swamy (Magadi) and B Shivaswamy (Tumkur) carried out a joint operation led by J C Nayak, deputy director of the Food & Civil Supplies Department. One of the tankers was found to be storing oil illegally. The team also arrested Shakur, and questioned him on the same. Illegally-stored diesel worth Rs 10 lakh (including the tanker) was seized. A case has been filed with the Kudur police, and further investigations will be held.
Some oil godowns where oil was being illegally stored, were demolished.
Nagendrappa and Krishnappa of the Revenue Department, Vigilance Officer Srinivas of the Food Department, and others also participated in the operation.
