It was the first time that the University had to postpone the convocation day after the elections were announced.
Soon after the election process got over, the University again announced the D-day and had also invited the Vice President to confer the honourary awards.
As the D-day came nearer, sudden changes in the schedule of Vice President made the University to change the date again for the second time for its utter despair.
Before it lost its heart, the University decided to invite UGC President Sukhdev Tharota to confer the honourary degrees.
As per the earlier schedule, the convocation ceremony was to be held at H M Gangadharaiah Memory hall on February 25 in Tumkur.
And now again to the shock of many, the letter from the UGC president to participate in the parliament session has shattered its dreams.
This time again the D-day is eclipsed for the third time again.
Arrangements
In spite of all these, the administration has made all arrangements for the Convocation day and as part of it, already 21 medals to be presented for the awardees, 900 gowns are ready for the special guests. Special attraction for the day ‘Mace’ is also ready. As many as 2,000 honourary certificates have been awaiting for distribution during the ceremony which is yet to take place.
Doctorate Degrees
Three persons have been chosen to confer doctorate degrees on the convocation day. Siddaganga Seer Dr Shivakumara Swamiji, Professor B Sheik Ali and senior film actor K S Ashwath are the three dignitaries.
Computerisation
The state government has released additional fund of Rs 1 crore to provide basic facilities. The University has decided to invest the entire amount for the development of library which will be computerised too. Though the date has been getting postponed the administration has not lost its hope. It has been decided to invite a guest from the state to avoid delaying further and conduct the function.
