Since the event was aimed at raising funds for charity, a small auction was organised for a few exclusive pieces. Two cricket bats sporting signatures of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid among others, an emerald green Oscar gown by Shantanu and Nikhil and a sporty dress by Ashish Soni, sadly did not fetch the fancy of the price-conscious Bangaloreans. So much so that the organisers were forced to bring the base price down by more than half. The gown went for a measly sum of Rs 10,000, when the base price was Rs 25,000. Film-maker Indrajeet Lankesh gracefully bought one of the cricket bats for Rs 15,000. Only a painting by a visually challenged child, which fetched Rs 40,000, came as a consolation.
At any regular fashion event in the City, socialites are often found jostling to make space or grab the front row. Surprisingly, the turn-up at this fashion show was very low. The empty seats seemed to beckon pleadingly. This could be attributed to the donation ticket amounting to Rs 3,000, required for the entry to the show. And unfortunately price-consciousness triumphed over benevolence.
