LISTING / Firms face action if public stake falls below stipulated figure
Centre makes 25 pc public holding must  
The Finance Ministry, on Friday, proposed to make it mandatory for all companies listed on stock exchanges to ensure that their minimum public holding does not fall below 25 per cent of the equity.

Budget to don a benign face  
The forthcoming general budget for 2008-09 while striving to achieve fiscal consolidation will focus on allocating more funds for social sectors, Finance Minister P Chidambaram indicated on Friday.

Indias inflation unexpectedly accelerated to a five-month high, vindicating the Reserve Bank of Indias decision this week to refrain from cutting interest rates.
CORPORATE / Net income dips to $879 million
Ericsson to axe 1,000 jobs  
Ericsson AB, reported the biggest drop in profit since 2003 and said it will cut 1,000 jobs in Sweden to rein in costs. The fourth-quarter net income of the company fell to 5.64 billion kronor ($879 million), it said on Friday.
Exports log in 21.76% growth  
Despite appreciating rupee having adverse effect on certain sectors of the countrys export basket, overall exports during first nine months of the current fiscal (April to December, 2007) posted an impressive 21.76 per cent growth.
