Doctored gang war averted in prison
By Bala Chauhan, DH News Service,Bangalore:
Timely intervention averted a gang war in Central Prison, Parappanna Agrahara, threatening the security of over 4,000 prison inmates and staff.

Rowdy sheeter Narayanswamy aka JCB Narayana, sensing his ‘arrest’, called a prison officer 10 days before his ‘arrest’ and asked him for ‘concessions’ for his gangmen, locked up in the prison.

He was ‘arrested’ on January 15 by the organised crime wing of the Central Crime Branch, Bangalore near Parappana Agrahara.

JCB was on the run for the last five years and has 6 murder cases including one supari killing, 9 cases of chain snatching, dacoity, extortion, threatening and assault cases in his dossier.

Plot unearthed

JCB’s call was intercepted and the plot unearthed. On January 5, JCB reportedly called up Jailor Krishnamurthy and asked him to give a “relaxed interview” (meeting time with relatives) to his gangmen. He also indicated to the official to expect his ‘visit’ to the prison.

“We are like birds. We visit a place and move on...” he seemingly told Krishnamurthy in Kannada, who allegedly ensured him that he would take care of his request. JCB struck a deal with the jailor and offered to pay him Rs 15,000 in return.

What did JCB mean by a relaxed interview for his accomplices? According to highly placed sources, JCB’s arch rival is also lodged in the same prison and he may have planned to eliminate him through his gangmen. An interview for a longer time would have helped them to draw a foolproof plan and also sneak in some weapons.

Confiscated

Last month, prison authorities had confiscated a large number of contraband and cell phones, which were sneaked in during the interview time by prisoners’ kin.

The entire conversation was recorded and played to senior prison officers. An enquiry was immediately ordered into the incident. A senior officer, who conducted the enquiry, in his report, submitted that along with Krishnamurthy, another jailor T M Ramakrishnaiah was involved in the plan.

Following the enquiry, ADG & IG Prisons, S T Ramesh placed both the accused jail officials under suspension.
He also shifted JCB to Central Prison, Bijapur. When contacted Mr Ramesh confirmed that Krishnamurthy and Ramakrishnaiah were suspended on charges of misconduct.
