Macho BLING
Move aside chain bracelets, casual thread pendants and semi-precious rings. The year 2008 ushers in more suave trinkets for guys, says Shilpi Madan.

Of course, you leave your lope, drawl and fragrance to spell sheer magic before you begin to converse. But if you are a metrosexual male, equip yourself with the hottest in men’s jewellery to step up the cool quotient.

Jewellery designer Pradeep Jethani feels diamond accessories are a  suave inclusion in the guy's vanity caddy.  “Configure the carat, depending upon your built and personality and you will be able to carry it off with aplomb,” he says. From filmstars to musicians, you spot super sized winking studs and ear rings laced with the carbon polymer. “What is in right now are diamond cuff links. Simple, subtle and stylish, these lend an element of both sex appeal as well as finesse to your appearance. Probably the best style statement you could make whether at a traditional wedding or in a board room meeting.” Jethani backs a rich blend of white gold and diamonds studded with tiny precious stones. “A timeless combination that complements all colours.”

So bling is clearly passe. Emphasises jewellery designer Amisha Khanna, “A dull polish in gold, bordering on the whitish appeal is in vogue. You must invest in a restrained tie pin and a set of classic cufflinks to go with it. I believe it is a fashion faux pas to wear oversized diamonds on your fingers. That is a premise for the fairer sex alone.

Choose smaller and subtle diamonds in a white gold finish in rings. Thumb rule is, what you wear must complement your physique. So a more delicate bracelet for shorter guys and chunkier jewellery for the bulkier lot.
Though as a word of caution, avoid overkill..”

Platinum is hot

Platinum is hot on the trinkets circuit. A perfect foil for the gleaming diamonds, sorority rings and wedding bands in the metal are gaining increasing favour for their sleek look and classy feel. So much so that diamond major Orra brings in an array of eternity and semi-eternity rings, classic plain platinum bands, solitaire and three stone rings that are finding favour with men.

So loosen up, take a look and go by your instinct. What you wear will make you feel like a million bucks.
