Doc in the dock
A gynaecologist attached to a government hospital at Yelahanka fell into the Lokayukta trap while allegedly accepting Rs 3,500 as bribe from a patient for removing stitches and discharging her.
According to information received, Sudha underwent an operation recently and she was to be discharged. However, gynaecologist Dr I S Rao refused to remove the stitches and discharge her without Rs 3,500. Irked, Sudha’s husband N Kantharaju, a resident of Yelahanka, lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the doctor caught red-handed.
Three face case for taking bribe
Upalokayukta Justice G Patri Basavana Goud has taken up a suo-motu case against the manager and clerks of Registration of Births and Deaths Office for demanding bribe from a freedom fighter’s daughter.
Gayathri Giri, a resident of Palace Guttahalli, needed a birth certificate for her son. When she went to the Utility Building, Manager Ramakrishna, clerk Kumar at Utility Building and clerk Subba Rao at Malleswaram office allegedly demanded Rs 700 besides requisite fee of Rs 110 for issuing the certificate.
The woman telephoned the Lokayukta in this connection, following which the Upalokayukta initiated action against Ramakrishna, Kumar and Rao.
Morcha against pub timings 
The BJP Mahila Morcha has opposed any move to extend the timings of pubs and bars in Bangalore from the present 11:30 pm to 1:00 am.  Holding a protest on Thursday, the Morcha members said, keeping bars and pubs past midnight will increase the crime rate and also encourage nefarious activities.
Security up at rly stations
Security will be tightened on Sunday at City, Cantonment, Yeshwanthpur K R Puram and Yelahanka railway stations following threats of protests at railway stations and railway offices all over the State by the Border Agitation Committee. DIG (Railways) K H Srinivasan said personnel from GRP, Karnataka State Reserve Police platoons, City police and RPF will be deployed at these stations. Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj is leading the agitation.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Mahadevaiah felicitation Committee Chairman H C Satya said that Dr Mahadevaiah has developed several techniques to treat diseases. Devaraj Urs Deemed University V-C C M Gurumurthy, former High Court judge Justice A J Sadashiva would be chief guests at the function.
