When you grow your emerald garden it will become a small hospital and a treasure box filled with free gifts and medicines. For example if you plant the marigold in one corner it controls diseases in your soil, and it is good to grow it around your tomatoes, brinjals and other vegetables. It will keep pests away from them.
A brew of marigold leaves and soapy water make a good spray to counteract other pests. You can wash your plants with this soapy marigold water.
Mint: grow mint in your garden so you can make mint tea. It acts as a digestive and makes you feel better when you have a bad cold. Peppermint works as a decongestant, when you have a nasty cold. Pour boiling water over a few sprigs in a small bowl, place the bowl in a paper bag, then gather the opening of the bag over the nose and mouth and inhale as much as possible for as long as is comfortable! Crushed leaves on your pillow at night are also good for getting a calming sleep.
You can add mint to peas and potatoes for a better flavour, when making soups, curries and sauce. You can add a few leaf tips chopped to butter and cheese for a special taste. You can also put them into tea.
Mouthwash with basil or tulsi: you must grow a pot of tulsi also known as basil or ocimum basilicum. Finely chopped tulsi in any dish with tomatoes, soups, pizza and pasta, makes them tastier. Finely chopped basil stirred into mayonnaise makes a good sauce for fish. You can use it as a garnish for vegetables, chicken and egg dishes.
Make a strong solution of tulsi leaves in boiling water to get an excellent mouth wash! It can cure sore gums or ulcers. Use this mouthwash every half an hour. When possible, tuck a leaf down next to the ulcer!
Did you know that you can add tulsi leaves to your bath water for a cooling bath? A bunch of tulsi leaves or even the whole plant hung in the kitchen or on the window sill will help to deter flies!
Bougainvilla and turmeric for boils!
Try this easy remedy. A villager in Raipur had a boil that had already been formed. A herbal healer gathered a few leaves of bougainvillea, made a fine paste of them with a little turmeric and applied it on the boil. In a few hours, the boil burst! The healer drained out the pus! So it would be useful to grow this flower in your garden. This same remedy was tried on more people with simple boils. If the boil was in the beginning stages, it got absorbed in the body with this medicine. But if it was already formed the bougainvillea medicine made it burst and it healed faster.
