ATHLETICS / Bahadur sets new mark
Sahana soars to gold

 Basant Rana Bahadur of SSCB created a new National record in the 50-km walk with a time of 4:10.42 in the Indian Grand Prix here on Thursday.. 
Bahadur, surpassed Hyderabad’s Gurdev Singh's two-year-old record of 4:16:22.
Elsehwere, Karnataka’s Sahana Kumari won the high jump gold with a leap of 1.80 metres.
Record-holder Renjith Maheshwary (15.83M) had to be content with silver in the men’s triple jump event. Railway’s Amarjeet Singh clinched the gold with a 16.30M effort. Bibu Mathew had to settle for the bronze with an effort of 15.76M.
Asian champion Chitra Soman won the 400 metres gold by clocking 53.19s, while Sinimol Paulose and Preeja Sreedharan continued from where they left off in Doha by winning the gold in the 1500M and 5000M events respectively.

 Triple jump: Amarjit Singh (Railways, 16.30M) 1; Ranjith Maheshwari (Railways, 15.83) 2; Bibu Mathew (Navy      15.76) 3.
