Miandad blasts ICC, members
Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has lashed out at the ICC and member boards for discriminating between the IPL and the rebel ICL.
“Both leagues are launched for the same purpose — to make money. But it seems unfair that when both leagues say that players’ top priority would remain their national commitments, the ICL is not recognised,”
Joshna, Saurav bow out
India's Joshna Chinappa crashed out in the women's semifinals of the Asian squash championship won by Malaysia's top seed Nicol David, reports IANS from Kuwait.
Chinappa lost to Malaysia's Sharon Wee 5-9, 9-4, 7-9, 5-9 in 55 minutes while David defeated Christina Mak of Hong Kong 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 in 16 minutes before beating second seed Rebecca Chiu of Hong Kong 9-5, 9-2, 9-2 in 34 minutes to win the title.
In the men's section, Saurav Ghosal and Siddharth Suchde lost in the quarterfinals. Abdullah Almezayen of Kuwait beat Ghosal 8-10, 9-4, 9-1, 9-3 in 72 minutes and second seed Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia overcame Suchde 9-2, 9-3, 8-10, 9-2 in 62 minutes.
Symonds may tour Pakistan
Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds might reconsider his decision of not touring Pakistan next month, reports PTI from Melbourne. “The door’s ajar, but you know where I stand on it,” Symonds said.
“At that time I’ll have to make a decision that I’ll have to stand by,” he said.
Pawar shocks Sahlberg
India’s Anand Pawar upset Swede top seed Magnus Sahlberg 21-14, 21-13 in the first round match of the Austrian International Championships, reports agencies from Vienna.
In the second round, Pawar, a trainee of TATA Padukone Badminton Academy, will play the local favourite and number 1 Austrian player Juergen Koch.

Indian Navy, Kochi defeated Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Dehradun 25-11, 21-25, 25-20, 25-20 in the men’s section of the 12th National League Volleyball Championship at Nellore on Thursday, reports agencies.
BPCL, Kochi had to survive some anxious moments before putting it across Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-10. In the women’s section, SAI, Thalassery beat Central Railway, Mumbai 23-25, 26-24, 27-25, 25-18.
Young Turks emerge champs
Young Turks Pankaj Advani and Manan Chandra defeated Dynamic Duo to emerge champions in the inaugural Yasin Merchant Classic Invitation Snooker Doubles Tournament on Thursday.
Turks made a late charge to emerge victors 5-4, tallying 12 points.
