Walking with the lions at Casela Bird Park, quad-biking at L'Etoile nature reserve, swimming with dolphins at Tamarin, feeding crocodiles at La Vanile Reserve Des Mascareignes to Zipeline Rides at St. Felix Estate - Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) unveiled its ‘Active Tourism Indulgences’ (ATI) package to attract high yeilding leisure traffic from India. With an aim to increase the arrivals from SI by 25 per cent, ATI will help augment destination Mauritius, positioning it as a holistic getaway besides being an established honeymoon retreat, said Vijaye Haulder, Deputy Director, MTPA at a press meet on Wednesday.
Mauritius offers a wide range of options for the tourist, from heritage sites like Le Morne, a hill where the African slaves committed suicide as a symbol of resistance to slavery, to eco tourism options including blue safari which is a submarine ride and undersea walks apart from indulging in adventure sports, he said. There were 42,974 Indian tourist arrivals for 2007, up by 14.6 per cent compared to the previous year, of which 30 percent were from the South, he explained.
There are 9,07,000 tourist arrivals in Mauritius which they hope will hit the one million mark this year. The MTPA has earmarked a target of two million tourist arrivals by 2015.
Film
MTPA is also keen to target the multi-budgeted and multi-dimensional Southern film industry as Mauritius is already a preferred location for Bollywood movies. "We offer special packages like free access baggage, special cargo rates for film equipment among others," said Air Mauritius Regional Manager Rajesh Busgheet.
