KIMS director suspended
Hubli, dhns: The government on Thursday suspended Karnatak Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Director M G Hiremath. In its order, sent through fax, the government said Dr Hiremath has been suspended pending Lokayukta inquiry. Official sources said the government took this decision in the wake of allegations of financial irregularities against Dr Hiremath.
Movie screening for kids
Bangalore, dhns: Unlike other children, these kids may not discuss the movie they watched on Thursday, but they enjoyed every bit of it. Students of Bethany Special School watched Aamir Khan’s film, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ at the Forum Mall. Organised by PVR Cinemas, 200 people, including parents, teachers and students, watched the movie. Students and teachers not only enjoyed the film but also found it very “touching”.
5 officers suspended
Belgaum, dhns: Five government officials were suspended in Belgaum district on Thursday on charges of dereliction of duty. The suspended officials are: R B Gadad, a junior engineer, M A Jakati and C B Honkali, both village accountants and R S Ingali and K S Bhairannavar, both Gram Panchayat secretaries. Deputy Commissioner M E Shivalingamurthy issued the suspension order.
Police firing at hearing
Gulbarga, dhns: Police fired in the air to disperse a mob at a public hearing on the setting up of a cement factory at Sedam, 50 km from here, on Thursday. Four persons injured in skirmishes have been admitted to the district general hospital here. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Bank staff to go on strike
Bangalore, dhns: The All India State Bank Officers’ Federation and All India State Bank of India Staff Federation have called for a two-day strike starting February 25 press for their long- pending demands.
