Why do some people suffer from the pain of sorrow? If we were to list out the reasons, they would be endless. If you asked people, most would say they are worried about the future. This is only partly true. If you ask me, one of the main reasons for misery is the burden of memories.
Let us think about the future a little later.
First, let us take a look at the past. The past is also known as the "dead past."
But in the heart of our hearts, we do not allow the past to die. Even though we do not want it, we carry it unnecessarily in our hearts and struggle with it.
The anxiety and fear of the future is the next stage. What will happen tomorrow? What will happen to my business? Fear originates in these apprehensions.
There is a way to live life without worrying about the past or being anxious about the future. You sometime meet people who quote from the Gita: - "Do your duty, do not expect results."
Result is related to the future. Duty is related to the present. Concentrating on the future leads to inadequate attentions to the present, creating an imbalance. That is why said the Gita says, we must not worry about results.
If we were asked to walk along a long narrow pair of rails, we would consider it a simple task. But, if the same rail is suspended between two tall buildings, and if we were asked to walk, there would be hesitation. Oh! no handrails for support... the height is staggering. The fear of slipping, falling, breaking our head and may be loss of life. These thoughts come to our minds! While we tremble from the fear of the future, we must remember that the present is being wasted. Submerged in the fear of the future, we miss many pleasant moments including seeing the beauty of our spouse and children! We live our life like robots. Please plan your future. Plan Well. But do not worry constantly about it and thus live in fear. Learn from the past. Enjoy the present. To put it briefly -
Past is History
Future is Mystery
Present is a Gift
That's why we call it PRESENT!
