A BWSSB assistant engineer (AE) who went to rectify damaged sewerage lines on Munireddy Palya main road was abused and attacked by residents, according to BWSSB sources.
Parameswara Ithal went to the location along with six employees to set right a damaged line. Families residing in the nearby BWSSB quarters had complained about the damaged pipe. Encroachment by a family led to the attack. The pipe passed through a conservancy lane which had houses on the either side. A family that owned land on both sides encroached upon the lane space to construct a house. The building was above the sewerage line resulting in the pipe getting damaged.
“Five locals confronted, abused the AE and his team. In the altercation that followed, the AE was manhandled and hit on his chin. His lips were bleeding,” a source said. The AE has lodged a complaint with the police against  Ramu, Sathish, Jagadish, Rajkumar and Chethan.
