Varthur Prakash faction takes over the reins of Kolar CMC
DH News Service, Kolar:

Congress has suffered a severe set back in the elections held to Kolar CMC, even though it got simple majority in the election. With the results out, Varthur Prakash has taken over the reins of  the CMC.

Nazeer Ahmad and V K Rajesh of Varthur Prakash faction have been elected as President and Vice President of Kolar City Municipal Corporation.

Former MLA K Srinivas Gowda has lost his power over the CMC, which was under the reins of Gowda from the past ten years. Out of the 35 members in CMC, 16 members were elected from Congress, 14 from Varthur faction and five from JD (S). Later a member from Varthur faction joined Congress.

Varthur Prakash’s faction won the election as six members from Congress voted for it.

Khaleel Ahmad and Lal Bahadur Shastri had contested for the post of President and Vice president from Congress party.

Out of the five JD (S) members, four did not cast their vote, except Bharathi.

Nazeer Ahmad from ward number 19 got 19 votes and and Khaleel Ahmad got 13 votes. V K Rajesh got 19 votes and Shastri got 13 votes. Union Minister K H Muniyappa also cast the vote from Congress party.

Futile efforts
Congress party which was confident of winning the election had its dreams shattered, in spite of having a simple majority. The KPCC had handed over the responsibility to former Minister Kagodu Thimmappa and he had tried to bring in unity among the members.

He had also held a meeting on Friday night withe the party members.

Whip issued
The Congress party had issued whip to ten members, who voted for the party. However, six members could not be issued a whip.

Those who voted against the party are Manjula Devi, Bombay Aslam, Kusuma Ramachandra, Madhusudan Kumar, Shafi Ahmad, Sheik Chand Pasha.

Sub Division officer M S Archana, Tahsildar Naveen Kumar conducted the elections.

Security deployed
In view of the elections heavy security was deployed led by DySP Muni Reddy.

Supporters of Varthur Prakash celebrated the victory by bursting crackers and carried Prakash in a procession to CMC office.
