The mantra of innovation
Less than a third of Indias homes have a toilet and only half of five lakh villages are connected to the electricity grid. Falling agriculture productivity is threatening to turn India into a net importer of food for the first time since the green revolution.
Foreign money buying American assets
Foreign investors are buying aggressively, taking advantage of American duress and a weak dollar to snap up what many see as bargains, while making inroads into the worlds largest market. For much of the world, the United States is now on sale at discount prices.
BUDGET: 2008-09
Income tax reforms needed for salaried class
In less than a fortnight, the Finance Minister will present the Union budget 2008. Thanks to a robust growth in tax collection in 2007-08, citizens of India are expecting that individual tax rates will be reduced and surcharge, education cess will be revoked.
BUDGET: 2008-09
Do away with old rules
Corporate India is in fairly good shape. Confidence levels are high and the economy is intrinsically sound, so there is no real need for sops and handouts from the Union Budget.

Commercialising of cricket

Is commercialisation of cricket through the Indian Premier League good or bad? Deccan Herald had invited its readers’ opinion on the issue. Almost all our readers opined that commercialisation of cricket would have negative effect on the game as money would dominate the true spirit and patriotism of players.
The responsibility of players will be measured in terms of their bid amount. Some readers even termed IPL bidding as slave trade.
