TENNIS / Foreign round-up
Ginepri stuns fancied Blake
San Jose, reuters:
Top seed Andy Roddick beat Mardy Fish 7-6, 1-6, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the San Jose Open on Friday but James Blake lost in straight sets to Robby Ginepri.

Roddick will face Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who fought off three match points to defeat big-serving John Isner 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, while Ginepri will go up against fourth seed Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic, who took care of Lu Yen-hsun 6-2, 7-6.

Roddick struggled to get past Fish, who returned his serve beautifully and consistently attacked the net.

Ahead 6-4 in the first set tie-breaker, Fish committed a forehand error and then watched Roddick produce three brilliant winners to win it 8-6.

Fish came back in the second set when Roddick suffered a meltdown. Roddick also received a code violation for lobbing a ball across the court and into the stands.

The two slugged it out in the deciding set before Fish missed an easy backhand volley and forehand down the line to lose the match.

Ginepri delivered a 6-2, 6-2 victory over second seed Blake, who had beaten him in the semifinals of Delray Beach last week.

Llorda halts Karlovic

Michael Llodra of France beat Croat Ivo Karlovic 7-5, 7-6 to enter the final of Rotterdam Open, adds Reuters.

Llodra will face compatriot Gilles Simon or Sweden’s Robin Soderling in Sunday's final.  Simon defeated Russian world number 132 Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-3, 6-2 in the first semifinal, while Soderling, ended the run of Andreas Seppi 6-3, 6-2, a day after the Italian had beaten world number two and top seed Rafael Nadal.

Bhupathi-Mark lose

Second seed Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Mark Knowles of Bahamas were upset by the unseeded American duo of Scott Lipsky and David Martin in the quarterfinals of the $436,000 SAP Open tennis tournament, adds IANS from San Jose, California.

The Indo-Bahamas pair squandered a one-set lead to go down 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8 in a thrilling encounter Friday night.

Sharapova in final

Maria Sharapova will face Vera Zvonareva in an all-Russian final at the Qatar Open after the fourth seed beat Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday.

Unseeded Zvonareva reached her second final of the year with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over China's Li Na in the first semi.
