Cop gets his 'reward' for pulling up drunk driver
By R Venkatesh, DH News Service, Bangalore:
A man against whom the traffic police officer booked a drunken driving case and seized his vehicle, assaulted the men-in-khaki before being overpowered by the public on Sunday morning.

The accused was later handed over to the police. Curiously, the jurisdictional Hebbal police station staff seemed reluctant to register a complaint despite the complainant being their colleague and more so, with members of the public as witnesses.

Interestingly, the public caught the accused and took him to Hebbal police station, but even 16 hours after the incident, station officials were waiting for the green signal from their higher-ups to kickstart formalities.

Venkatesh, an eye witness, who also played a key role in pacifying the situation, narrated the incident to Deccan Herald, “It being a weekend, at around 10:30 pm, Chikkathimegowda and his staff were busy booking drunken driving cases at the designated point – Kodigehalli Gate. Srinivas Reddy, who was on his motorcycle, was stopped for checking. Immediately, he threw tantrums and refused to breathe into the Alcometer (for the breath analysis test). But after the cop persisted, it was proved that Mr Reddy had consumed alcohol beyond the permissible limit.”

“As per rules, he was forced to leave the vehicle and a drunken  driving case was booked against him. This made Srinivas Reddy angry, and he returned in the morning to take revenge against the cops.”

Chikkathimmegowda, who is an assistant sub-inspector of police attached to Hebbal police station was abused, dragged, pushed and pulled and physically assaulted in broad daylight near Kodigehalli circle by Srinivas Reddy, a Kempapura resident, in front of the public.

Mute spectator
Rajanna, a head constable who accompanied the ASI, was reduced to a helpless and mute spectator.

When the situation was about to go beyond control, fruit vendors and passersby intervened and reported the matter to the police station. A Hoysala was summoned, and Reddy taken to Hebbal police station.

After all the drama, the ASI was treated like a culprit in his own backyard. Deputy Commissioner of Police  (North) Syed Ulfath Hussain diplomatically brushed aside the episode saying, “Give me some time, I will get back with the outcome.”

This again goes to prove that it is better to be with the right connections, than be on the right side of the law. Law Keepers !!

Please follow up this incident. Let's see what explanation the DCP will give. It appears that the one'Sreenivasa Reddy' is politically well connected. Please thow some more light into this incident and expose the tied hands of our police and IPS officers.
