Inaugurating the programme taluk panchayat president H B Gauramma said the Bhagyalakshmi scheme is an ambitious project of the department of women and child development for the welfare of the girl child.
The scheme helps is weeding out the discrimination against the girl child and also financially supports poor families to take up the responsibility of the girl child. More than 1,600 beneficiaries are distributed bands in Tiptur taluk alone, she said.
Presiding over the function CDPO Natraj said the scheme applies to two children per family. He applauded the efforts of Anganawadi volunteers in making the scheme a grand success. He called upon parents of girls to come forward in maximum numbers to avail of the scheme. Under the scheme each girl child will get medical insurance and scholarship, he added.
