The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists staged a rail roko urging to provide job opportunities in Central Railway department on Sunday. The activists led by Praveen Kumar blocked the Swarna Express.
Every year Kannadigas are being discriminated and injustice is being done in the railway budget. They warned of holding a state wide protest if the same injustice is done this time too for the kannadigas.
The various demands were; giving a classical status to kannada language, giving contracts to Kannadigas in the appointment of Taxi drivers at International Airports, release of Dr Rajkumar stamps, appointing Kannadigas in BEML and others.
Memorandum
Before the protest, the activists submitted a memorandum to Tahsildar G V Nagaraj to be forwarded to Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
Karnataka Rakshna Vedike district president Kona Prabhakar, Chi Ramu, Abraham, Shivaraj, Nagesh, Venkatesh, Prakash and others participated.
Security deployed
Police security was deployed by Sub Inspector Y S Mohan under the leadership of Circle Inspector A G Kariappa.
The activists also staged a dharna in front of the Railway station in protest against the police as the police did not allow them to stop the Brindavan Express at 11 am as part of their protest.
