Karnataka State Open University will introduce ‘credit transfer’ system soon, said Vice-Chancellor Prof B A Viveka Rai.
Speaking to Deccan Herald here on Sunday, he said with credit transfer system, a student who is pursuing his/her degree from any conventional university or college, can transfer himself to the Open University during the course of their degree.
He said 13 State Open University Vice-Chancellors have met and discussed the matter regarding the credit transfer system. Another meeting will be held at Hyderabad on March 1 and they will decide the future course of credit transfer system, he said.
Prof Rai said the University is planning to give OMR sheets to the students along with the results. “As a first step in this regard, we are planning to give OMR sheets to the BEd students,” he said.
Certificate courses
KSOU has already entered into a tie-up with the Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, Mangalore, to start seven certificate course to artisans. With this move, interested can have certificate course in pottery, weaving, wood work (making dolls), sculpture, basket making, carpentry etc. There is no need to have any educational qualification to get admission to the course. There is no education fee as well. The training will be provided at the Pilikula Nisargadhama Society Heritage Village. After six months, the student will be assessed and certificate will be given.
New BA degree
Prof Rai also said that the KSOU will start a new (special) BA degree from the next academic year. The duration of the course is two years. Those who obtain this degree are eligible to teach physically challenged children, students with dyslexia, blind schools.
The degree is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). He also spoke on plans to start online courses and changes in the examination system.
