West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels has been suspended from bowling in international cricket after independent analysis deemed his action illegal.
Dr Mark King, member of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists, concluded that Samuels’ off-break and fast deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under ICC regulations.
The suspension applies with immediate effect but the bowler can apply for re-assessment of his bowling action after he has modified it in accordance with ‘Clause G’ of the regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions, ICC said in a statement.
Samuels’ bowling action was reported illegal by the on-field umpires Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar of the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires and third umpire Brian Jerling in the third Test against South Africa in Durban last month.
