Poll panel drops photo ID plan
DH News Service, Bangalore:
In a clear indication that Office of the State Electoral Officer (OSEO) is bracing itself up for delimitation of Assembly constituencies, it has dropped its plans to take up electoral photo identity card (EPIC) campaign.

However, the ongoing electoral revision work will go on as scheduled.

The OSEO has recently directed deputy commissioners of districts through e-mail not to go ahead with EPIC campaign as scheduled. The campaign should have begun on Feb 18 across the State.

“We have received a mail from the OSEO in this regard. May be the OSEO doesn’t want to hurry through EPIC campaign following the Union Cabinet’s recent decision to implement delimitation. We are expecting a direction from the OSEO any moment to take up delimitation work,” one of the DCs said.

Chief Electoral Officer R Ramsheshan had stated that EPIC would start on February 18 and EPIC will be distributed to nearly one crore voters in the State. The plan was to distribute smaller version of EPIC which can be carried in wallet. But he was not available for comments.
