Doctors' strike called off
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Hundreds of patients who were asked to either reschedule their surgeries or rush to another hospital, heaved a sigh of relief after six days.

After resuming their strike on Monday, the Junior Doctors Association suspended the strike on Tuesday after the last of their demands were met.

Members of the association met the Governor on Sunday and it was announced that the strike was called off; but junior doctors went back to wielding placards and shouting slogans on Monday, because the Governor had not given a written assurance. The Governor eventually acceded to this demand too, giving in writing that a bill on the lines of the one in Andhra Pradesh will be processed and sent for approval to the Government of India. Only after this did the doctors suspend the strike.

A press release said junior doctors will wear a black badge until the law is passed.

The strike was called off at 11.30 am. Surgeries, OPDs and admission of patients resumed, with the situation limping back to normalcy. The hospital recorded 50 per cent of their usual OT cases, and 800 OPD patients were attended to.

Doctors were satisfied their demands were met as the Governor had given a written assurance on the bill on bailable arrest warrants; instructions were issued to increase police forces at the three major hospitals in the City, and action was taken against those who assaulted the doctors and went on a rampage.
