The government while terming media reports on the Sixth Pay Commission recommending “huge” hike in salaries of central government employees as speculative said on Tuesday that the Commission would submit its report by April 4.
Referring to reports appearing in a section of the press about a likely “huge” hike in salaries of Central government employees, Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal said the Commission was yet to finalise and submit its report.
The Minister in a written reply told the Rajya Sabha that, “The Commission is to finalise and submit its report within 18 months of its constitution — that is by April 4, 2008.”
“The government has not so far received the report of the Commission till date and therefore its deta’ils are not known,” Bansal said.
On implementation of the Pay Commission’s recommendations, Bansal said “since the report is yet to be submitted, the time frame for its implementation cannot be stated”.
The Sixth Pay Commission was constituted in October 2006 to recommend comprehensive changes in salary structure of government employees.
The four-member Commission — headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice B N Srikrishna — apart from recommending pay and salary structure of central government employees has been mandated to examine the scope to transform the Central Government Organisations into a modern, professional and citizen-friendly entities that are dedicated to the service of the people.
