Nagraj bags 100M gold
Bhopal, pti:

Jharkhand’s B G Nagraj became the fastest man of the 14th Federation Cup senior athletics meet here on Tuesday when he claimed the 100 metres gold medal in a time of 10.70 seconds on the opening day of the championships.

H M Jyothi of Andhra Pradesh won the women’s 100 metre race in 11.89 seconds.

Nagraj finished ahead of Karnataka’s Jamaluddin (10.81) and Ritesh Anand of Jharkhand (10.87).

In the corresponding women’s event, Mandeep Kaur got the silver with a timing of 11.93 seconds while K Sowjanya of Andhra Pradesh clocked 11.98 to clinch the bronze.

In the women’s 100 metre hurdles, national record holder Anuradha Biswal of Orissa was disqualified for not confirming her participation in 100 metre heats held earlier in day.

Though she won the hurdles with a timing of 13.75 seconds, she had to forfeit her medal.

Poonam Bojanna of Jharkhand, who finished behind Biswal, was declared the winner with a timing of 14.13s followed by Karnataka’s Shreema Priyadharshini (14.22s) and P Lakshmi of Tamil Nadu (14.91).

Indian Grand Prix winner Amarjeet Singh did not get a tough challenge in triple Jump in the absence of Renjith Maheswari, who is in the United States for training. Amarjeet’s sequence of attempts (15.78m, 15.53, x, x, 16.19, 16.15) was enough to fetch him the gold ahead of B Mathew of Indian Navy (15.74) and Malkiat Singh of Punjab (15.53).

Surender Singh of ASCB won the 5000 metres men’s gold in 14 minutes, 16:18 seconds, while Maharashtra’s Kavita Raut (16:48.47) took the honour in the corresponding women’s race.
